Privacy Policy

Overview

Symmetrly is a personal financial planning tool. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect the information you provide when you use our website and services. We built Symmetrly on the principle that your financial data belongs to you, and we treat it with the care that principle demands.

What we collect

We collect the information you enter directly and the data generated by your use of the service:

  • Account information: email address, authentication credentials managed by our identity provider, and profile preferences such as country and currency.
  • Financial information you enter: paycheck amounts and schedules, bills, debts, savings goals, account balances, purchases, life events, and any notes or tags you add.
  • Connected financial data: if you choose to link a bank or card account through a supported provider, we receive account names, balances, transaction descriptions, amounts, dates, and identifiers from that provider. We do not receive or store your bank login credentials.
  • Usage and technical data: browser type, device information, IP address, pages visited, and error logs. We use this to keep the service secure and reliable.

How we use your data

We use your information only to operate and improve Symmetrly:

  • To calculate your safe-to-spend amount, forecasts, debt payoff plans, and other financial insights.
  • To display your dashboard, calendars, goals, and reports.
  • To sync linked account balances and transactions where you have explicitly connected a provider.
  • To send essential service notifications, such as password resets or security alerts.
  • To diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and maintain the security of the platform.

We do not sell your personal or financial information. We do not use your data to target advertising, and we do not share it with marketers.

Bank and card connections

Account syncing is optional and only available where supported. When you connect an external account, you authorize a regulated financial-data provider (such as Plaid, Belvo, Salt Edge, or Yodlee, depending on your country) to share data with Symmetrly. We store only the access tokens and account metadata needed to maintain the connection, and access tokens are encrypted at rest.

You can disconnect a linked account at any time from the Connections tab. Disconnecting removes the provider token from our systems and stops future syncs.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored in encrypted databases hosted by our cloud infrastructure provider. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Access is restricted by authentication and row-level ownership rules, meaning your data is logically separated from other users' data.

No security system is perfect. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your password and account access secure.

Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and maintain session security. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising purposes.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of service providers for hosting, authentication, error monitoring, and financial data aggregation. Each provider is contractually bound to use your data only for the purpose of providing services to Symmetrly and to maintain appropriate security and confidentiality protections.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing, such as bank syncing.
  • Object to certain uses of your data.

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal and financial data from our active systems within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal or operational purposes.

Children's privacy

Symmetrly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves. We will post the revised version with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the app.
